Bloomberg, along with other publications, has reported on a potential deal being reached between Apple and OpenAI that will allow the iPhone makers to implement ChatGPT features in the next iOS update, iOS 18.

With all the latest new releases of mobiles over the past 12 months including AI features, Apple certainly needed to jump on the trend to not fall behind the competition as said AI implementation has been very well received by Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel customers, both of whom have introduced their own AI into their latest ranges.

The deal is said to not yet be final and will likely be announced either ahead of or at Apple’s 2024 Worldwide Developers Conferences (WWDC), their yearly keynote event that focuses on Operating System announcements but has also shown off new hardware in recent years.

The report from Bloomberg also mentioned that Apple has held “ongoing” discussions with Google to license the company's Gemini AI chatbot.

Announcement expected for WWDC 2024

Apple hasn’t yet clued fans into what they can expect at this year's conference, although it should be no surprise that they do speak on the potential deal.

In February this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed their intentions to release generative AI (GenAI) into its products to be released “later this year.”

He would also further drive home their desire for AI implementation during an earnings call earlier this month, in which he claimed Apple believes "in the transformative power and promise of AI" and that its advantages will "differentiate [Apple] in this new era."

Further reports have also claim that Apple has been spending millions of dollars to train its AI models, and that they might open their ecosystem which would allow AI developers to potentially "build a generative AI system deep into the iPhone."

All this is currently just reports but expect the announcements to come at WWDC 2024, which will take place on 10th-14th June.
